About the Foundation
The Lundbeck Foundation is a commercial foundation established in 1954 by Grete Lundbeck, widow of the founder of H. Lundbeck A/S
The main objective of the Lundbeck Foundation is to maintain and expand the activities of the Lundbeck Group, and to provide financial support for research of the highest quality in biomedical and natural sciences.
The the Foundation's commercial activities are carried out through the wholly-owned subsidiary LFI a/s, which holds a major portion of the share capital of H. H. Lundbeck A/S A/S and ALK-Abelló A/S, respectively. Both companies are listed on the NASDAQ OMX COPENHAGEN.
The Foundation is registered with the Danish Commerce and Companies Agency under CVR no. 11 81 49 13 and is under the supervision of he Danish Civil Affairs Agency.
In addition to its holdings in H. Lundbeck A/S and ALK-Abelló A/S, LFI a/s also has portfolio investments which are managed by LFI a/s' investment department in collaboration with external portfolio administrators.
The Foundation's equity in terms of market value amounted to DKK 24.1 billion at the end of 2008. There is a convergence between the Foundation and LFI a/s in regard to the chairman of the boards, the boards of trustees, and managing director. LFI a/s can be contacted at the same address as the Foundation.
The Foundation's support of scientific activities takes place mainly through the financing of concrete scientific projects in the areas of biomedicine and natural sciences. It grants a number of stipends and fellowships, and also supports education and procurement activities in biomedical and natural sciences. Geographically, research in Denmark receives the highest priority, though it may be in connection with international collaborative research projects.
Each year, the Lundbeck Foundation awards a number of research prizes.
The Foundation expects to award grants of approx. DKK 1 billion in the years 2008 to 2010, primarily to projects in biomedical and natural sciences. It awarded DKK 340 million in grants in 2009.
