The Lundbeck Foundation Center(s) for Nanomedicine 2009
Lundbeck Foundation Center(s) for Nanomedicine 2009
Call for declarations of interest
The Lundbeck Foundation has approved plans to finance Danish ambitious, original front-line research of the highest international standard within the field of Nanomedicine.
Nanomedicine is defined as the application of nanotechnology to improve human health and is projected to impact specifically on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Nanotechnology is defined as the interdisciplinary fields of science and technology whose unifying theme is the investigation and manipulation of matter at the atomic and molecular scale.
The funding module will last 5 years, with a total budget of up to DKK 100 million for one or more research centers.
It is important that it is not otherwise possible to carry out the suggested research due to limitations of sources of public funding. It should also be noted that the Lundbeck Foundation in its grant-making activity does not support clinical drug trials. This also applies to all kinds of research in commercial companies.
The research center or centers should comprise top researchers in their field with close contacts to other relevant national or international research entities - either by physical co-location or through formal tight collaboration. The declaration of interest should also include an appropriate framework for research education and recruitment and in concrete terms describe, for instance, how Ph.D. students can contribute to the center's activities.
In the first phase, the Foundation welcomes declarations of interest (max 12,000 characters incl. spaces) which should describe the nature and importance of the research, the underlying scientific hypotheses and the expected benefits for patients. Relevant literature references should be submitted separately (max 5,000 characters incl. spaces).
The declaration of interest should also include:
• CV and list of publications (max 5,000 characters incl. spaces) of the main applicant
• CV and list of publications (max 2,500 characters incl. spaces) of each senior researcher to be involved
• Separate description (max 2,500 characters incl. spaces) of the center's organizational structure
• A proposal for a 5-year budget (max 2,500 characters incl. spaces)
• A description of institutional collaboration, co-funding and alliances (max 2,500 characters incl. spaces)
All documents should be submitted in English.
Declarations of interest for the purpose of pre-qualification should be sent as PDF-doc. to the Lundbeck Foundation at mail@lundbeckfonden.dk no later than January 19, 2009 at 13.00. In March 2009 a number of applicants will be asked to submit detailed proposals by May 2009. The center(s) should be ready for start-up by the end of 2009.
For further information, please contact Lundbeck Foundation Director of Research Anne-Marie Engel at tel. 39 12 80 00.
